What Makes a Good Applicant?
A good applicant will be one who is academically driven and determined, empathetic of people around you (both in the organization and as a future practitioner), passionate about volunteering and helping others, and lastly someone who will contribute unique ideas and experiences to grow our fraternity. "Facta non Verba," which means, "Deeds, not Words," is the national fraternity motto. Let your deeds hold testament to you as a person, student, and future physician. We look forward to reviewing all applications in depth in order to recruit the best additions possible. If you have applied before and were declined, you are still eligible to apply again!

Common Questions
- How much are dues? Dues are $235 for new members, and $145 for returning members. These dues are paid once per academic year. Yes, this does mean applicants who are accepted in Spring semesters will pay returning member dues the next Fall semester. This is International fraternity policy, as International dues (of which a portion of chapter dues go toward) are paid once per academic year.
- What if I have trouble coming up with the money for dues? Let us know up front. If you are accepted in to our Fraternity, we can work with you. After all, we strive to be "phamily."
- Will not attending all recruitment events be held against me? No, not at all. We understand that many of you have work schedules that cannot be changed on timelines as short as recruitment. Just let us know that you are interested but cannot attend an event by emailing the VP of Recruitment ([email protected]).
- What are the required Fraternity events? We ask that you attend 75% of meetings (currently on Wednesday evenings at 7:00), Initiation of new members each semester, and our main philanthropy events (held each October--a formal banquet). If you work at meeting times, we ask that you try to change your schedule if possible, but we understand if you cannot do this on such a short time scale.
- If I applied and was not admitted in the past, may I apply again? Yes! Also, if you were granted an interview in a previous recruitment season, you are automatically granted one again for the current semester as long as you meet all other application deadlines.
Application Tips
- Make sure to comply with all application deadlines! We have a limited amount of time to review a large number of applications and interview membership candidates, so we rely on potential members to stay informed and comply with application timelines. We're students too, not superhumans (although we wish we were!).
- Use your resources! Kent State's Writing Center offers free help with essays, and Career Exploration and Development offers free interview prep. Utilize these resources and others like it to strengthen your application and interviewing skills. Much of our formal application process is designed to mimic aspects of the medical school admissions process, so the more preparation you do now, the more benefit you will see down the road!
- Be specific, not general! Almost everyone entering the healthcare field wishes to help people. Tell us why you want to become a physician, the experiences that have led you to this calling, etc. Also be able to explain why you wish to become a physician rather than another healthcare provider, like a nurse or physician assistant.
- Explore this website and learn about our chapter and national organization! This will help you be specific on your application as to why you want to join this organization. And if exploring makes you find that you don't want to apply, don't sweat it! There isn't one organization that is everyone's cup of tea. We want potential members to be excited and involved with the fraternity, instead of seeing it as a checkbox to fill before getting into medical school.
